| Traditionally, pilasters were used as supports for overhead weights, similar to columns. Like columns, pilasters had shafts, bases, and capitals, or “tops.” Unlike columns, most pilasters were flat and at least partially built into walls. Today, pilasters are not only built in the traditional sense, they are used on a smaller scale as architectural accents for doors and windows.
Pilasters made from urethane are lightweight, making them easy to handle and to install. Urethane pilasters are largely unaffected by changes or extremes in weather, so they will not chip, crack, or rot over time. Urethane pilasters do not attract termites or carpenter ants. In fact, urethane pilasters can be almost maintenance free after installation.
