Ok.... this is probably a DUMB question, but once I have a compost heap umm.. ready... do I just put it on top of my already growing plants... like mulch?? Or is this only good when you replant or plant new things??
Compost can be used for soil ammending or as mulch. If your using compost for soil ammending, I would suggest mixing about a 5 inch layer into the soil. If you wanna use it as a mulch, spread the compost about 2 inches thick over the soil but make sure not to pile compost against plant stems or tree trunks.
