My Electrical Breaker

Hello Everyone,

if my main breaker says 100 amp, does that mean i can`t have over 100 amps worth of breakers on it? can i install a higher amp main breaker? i`ve got over 200 amps of breaks and still have more empty slots for breakers. my main breaker keeps kicking. does the electric company have to turn off electric to install a main breaker? thanks, i know all about being careful

thanks again

It dances around your question.I believe that you can't install a larger Circuit Breaker on a 100 amp panel. The bus bars on a 100 amp panel are designed for 100 amps. The bus bars for a 200 amp panel are designed for a load of 200 amps. Running more than a 100 amps on a 100 amp panel will cause the bus bars to over heat. The formula P=I(square of the current in amps) times Resistance. This is measured in Watts. Or the formula P=I times E. The higher the current the higher the Watts or heat. I recommend you install a power panel that will accomodate your current needs plus any future needs.
