Chances are you would do what most would and that is opt for the new television. This happens quite often and with several appliances. The truth is that with most household appliances, when they breakdown, usually it makes more financial sense just to buy something new than invest in having it fixed. That is fine but then what happens to your old TV or other appliance. Unfortunately, today many times they end up in landfills. This is unfortunate because in this day and age we really need to be recycling.

When it comes to recycling old, broken appliances you may be surprised at how many options you have. It is jus a matter of looking. The first thing you could try is the repair place that you initially take it to. Although the appliance as a whole maybe of no use to them, there may be parts that they can use. It is better to re-use than to throw away. Another thing you could try are charities. Many times they will collect the appliance, fix and donate it. They may also sell it for a reduced price and donate the proceeds.

If the item is totally unfixable, then you need to dispose of it. Recycling is going to depend on the area you live in. Some areas are great and offer lots of service; some have some serious catching up to do. Where ever you live, a great place to ask about appliance recycling is your local garbage collection service. If they won’t take it themselves, chances are they can put you in contact with someone who will.
